For Her Gold Award Claire chose to work with veterans at Community Hope, a shelter for homeless veterans. Claire chose to solicit donations of kitchen appliances and received 75 new kitchen appliances and 12- new kitchen items for the residents. Additionally, of the 96 residents at the Community Hope, only 6 were female, and Claire wanted to do something special for them. Claire completely repainted the women's common room and purchased new furniture, decorations, and flat screen TV for the women as well.

Melissa's focus was to share her experience with double corrective jaw surgery to help future candidates who may inquire about it to learn more about the process. Through a two-year journey and preparation, Melissa was able to blog and document her experience to get an accurate representation and a patient's perspective of the surgery rather than from a doctor. The goal was to help alleviate patient's stress of the daunting six-hour surgery, hospital stay and month-long recovery. She made the blog and information accessible by posting it online to the public.
