The Jared Box Project

My name is Eva Morrison and I just completed my Girl Scout Gold Award! The goal of my project is to bring smiles to children in hospital rooms and help make their hospital stay less scary and lonely. These visits can be frightening and isolating and often times, extended. I want to put smiles on the children’s faces who are scared. By providing them with fun and engaging activities, their days can be a little brighter. While researching ways to do this, I came across the Jared Box project (thejaredbox.org) and knew this was the perfect way to address the issue of lack of fun and activities in pediatric units of hospitals. The boxes include toys, games and activities such as play dough, puzzles, card games and fidget toys as well as handwritten encouraging notes and messages.

Thanks to our wonderful community, I, along with my team, was able to donate over 100 Jared boxes to Overlook Medical Center. We hosted two younger Girl Scout troops, educated them about the issue and together we created over 100 boxes.

I created a lesson plan for creating these boxes and I am sharing it as well. I encourage leaders to incorporate this plan into their curriculum! I hope to pass on the excitement to younger Girl Scouts for years to come!"
