Wild About Winter

Julia Nugent, Gold Award recipient in 2024, created a program called WILD ABOUT WINTER for her Gold Award project. This program aims to improve the physical and mental health of young children during the winter. Through the Winter Ranger Program, young children and their families are given access to a wide variety of winter activities that can be completed for a “Winter Ranger” title. The program is a self-guided program and can be completed at any time. Click Here troop leaders to access the activities online https://sites.google.com/view/wildaboutwinter/activities.

Julia also created the Snowshoe Loaner Program through the Library of the Chathams. This allows Chatham families the opportunity to try snowshoeing using one of the many available trails in the local area. There are 2 adult and 2 children-sized shoes along with poles and a bag for easy transport of each pair of shoes.

Some local great trails include Loantaka Brook reservation and the Great Swamp.
